About Samuel Boey

Samuel Boey
MSpPathSt, CPSP
B.A (Hons) – Linguistics Major

Volunteering with people with disabilities and studying linguistics ignited a spark in Samuel to pursue speech pathology with a passion. Ever since, Samuel has worked with people with disabilities to enable them to achieve their communication goals and to support their mealtime needs. Samuel was given the affectionate name “Sam the Speechie” as he worked with a person-centred framework with a strengths based approach. In his work, Samuel focuses on developing skills and strategies that improves a person’s quality of life. Samuel has a special interest in developing positive interactive environments for the teaching and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Samuel is also passionate about teaching access methods such as switch access, alternate mouse access, and gaze interaction (eyegaze).

Sam the Speechie’s logo encapsulates his passion and belief, “I have something to say. I raise my hand.” The colours are like a tree. Developing communication is like planting a tree, you’ll need a good fertile ground (positive interactive environment), strong trunk (family and friends supports), and then the leaves and branches (communication opportunities) will spread out for flowers (independent and autonomous communication) to blossom. A tree will also take time to grow from a seed to a sapling to tree.

Samuel is fluent in English, Chinese (Mandarin), and Chinese (Cantonese).

In his spare time, Samuel enjoys board games, playing music on the saxophone or on the kalimba, juggling and performing magic.

Everyone has something to say. Everyone can learn something new today. Sam the Speechie can help you find your words. Let’s start chatting!
